About The Edmonton Food Bank 

The Edmonton Food Bank was first established on January 16, 1981, becoming Canada's very first food bank! This organization first came to be when various individuals began realizing that tons of edible food was being wasted and that "hunger was affecting the lives of many of their clients".

Their mission has since been to be “stewards in the collection of surplus and donated food for the effective distribution, free of charge, to people in need in our community while seeking solutions to the causes of hunger.”

The Edmonton Food Bank helps over 30,000 people every month and approximately 40% of those people are children. They also provide, on average, 450,000 meals and snacks in a single month!
