Welcome to Canora, a mature residential community that began development in the 1930s.

This neighbourhood came by its name in a unique way. In 1948 the West Jasper Place School District held a contest to name the new school that was being built. The contest winner was a junior high student who realized that the new school was close to the old Canadian Northern Railway line. The new name was created by combining the first two letters of each word – ca-no-ra. The school opened in 1949, and the neighbourhood became known by the school’s name.

This neighbourhood has diverse real estate as it is heavily dominated by duplexes and condos with some townhouses and detached single-family homes to choose from too.

The Neighbourhood Improvement Program that took place in the 1970s has since provided residents of the Canora community with newly developed parks, schools and community facilities. This family-friend neighbourhood is close to Brightview Elementary School (Grades K-6) and Holy Cross Elementary Junior High School (Grades K-9).

Canora is also minutes from Costco, Kingsway Mall and less than 10 minutes from Yellowhead, making commuting easy for residents.
